The game of the weekend in the Premier League comes on Sunday when 3rd place Liverpool host 5th place Tottenham at Anfield. Both teams have been playing very well recently, and both have aspirations of finishing in the top four. Those two ingredients should make for a cracking game that both fans of the clubs and neutrals will really enjoy watching.
In 3rd place, Liverpool currently hold a two point lead over Tottenham so a win here for Liverpool extends their lead to five points. However, they know that should Tottenham go to Anfield and win, there is the potential for Liverpool to be outside of the top four after the weekend. That shows how much is at stake, and with just 13 games remaining in the season, every single point matters at the top of the table. With Manchester City looking like they are running away from the rest of the teams below them on their way to a Premier League title, the top four battle is where all the action is going to be, and this game is the first of many big ones this month.
Not only does this game put two great teams against each other, but there are two long streaks that are going head to head. Liverpool have been in great form overall, but it is their home form that has been exceptional. They are currently undefeated in their last 12 home games and that is something they will not want to lose, especially not to a top four rival like Tottenham.
Spurs bring an beaten streak of their own to the table, they are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games, despite facing some tough opposition. They love to attack, so don’t expect them to go to Anfield and sit back looking for a point, they will arrive looking to win the game, and that is what will make this a great one to watch.
Going head to head we have two of the best attacking teams in the league, with many star attacking players on the pitch. Only Manchester City have scored more goals than these two, Liverpool are the second best scorers in the league while Tottenham are tied for third. With Liverpool averaging over three goals per game, and Tottenham averaging just under three goals per game, that is exactly what you can expect to see from these two.
The game looks set to be a very entertaining and a high scoring draw would not surprise me as being the outcome. A 2-2 draw looks to be the best bet, both teams will get on the scoresheet and both are not the best defensively, so are expected to concede.
The one key ingredient for this game is that Tottenham will come out and attack Liverpool, in an attempt to win the game. They won’t shy away and try to take a point from Anfield, Tottenham will attack and look for three points. Liverpool will also attack, being the home team and full of confidence, meaning the two defences are going to be exposed, and very busy. This will leave gaps and the attacking players on the field are more than capable of capitalizing on them, which is why I think we will see goals.
This is sure to be a good game for the neutrals, and if you are having a bet make sure you back goals in the game. 2-2 looks to be the best bet, while both teams will be looking for the win, and will attack to try and get the three points, they may have to settle for a point each. Both have quality all across the pitch and certainly have match winners available, but they may not be able to do enough as these two teams look likely to cancel each other out over the course of the 90 minutes.
Enjoy the game if you are watching, it looks sure to be a very entertaining one. A 2-2 draw looks to be the best bet, but with quality all over the pitch, both teams have the ability to win this if they want it more.
